Its graduation time of year which means ceremonies, banquets, and parties! Recognizing graduates on a Sunday morning is a great way to invite family members and celebrate the accomplishments of the students. We recognize those graduating from Kindergarten, 8th grade, High School, and College. Graduation is an important milestone in their lives. Here are five ideas you can use to recognize your graduates…

1. Print their names in the bulletin or on a slide

Its good to promote the graduation Sunday a few weeks ahead of time and ask people to sign up. You can collect their name, grade, and plans for next year. Print their names in the bulletin that Sunday or create a slide to display.

2. Give them a gift

Graduates are going to receive several gifts this year (often in the form of a large check from grandma and grandpa). Why not give them something to help them grow spiritually? You could order a Bible with their name engraved, a coffee mug with a scripture verse, or a practical Christian book. We gave one this year called the Smart Girls Guide to God, Guys, and the Galaxy.

3. Take a graduation photo

You could also have a photographer available to take a photo of the graduate with their family. A nice backdrop and some flowers can make this photo extra special.

4. Pray a blessing over them

Invite all of the graduates up to the stage and have them introduce themselves and where they are graduating from. Its like a mini graduation ceremony during church. At the end, the pastor can encourage them with a short word and pray a blessing over them as they begin a new season.

5. Throw a party

What would graduation Sunday be without cake? Order a large sheet cake or cupcakes and invite the family and friends to attend a reception after service. Brew some coffee, pour some juice, and you’re ready to go!
